Debunking the Myths: Understanding the Truth About Dental Implants

woman scared at dentistDental implants are an excellent, long-lasting solution if you have one or more missing teeth and wish to restore your smile and confidence. There are plenty of misconceptions, however, about these tooth replacements. Let’s take a look at some of the common myths and debunk them.

Myth 1: Dental Implants Keep Getting More Expensive

While dental implants aren’t considered inexpensive, costs have dramatically decreased over the past decade, making implants more accessible to more people. The number and type of restorations needed can also be tailored to fit within your financial plan.

Myth 2: Dental Implants Are Painful

Another common myth is that getting a dental implant is painful. The discomfort experienced after an implant procedure is typically less than that following a tooth extraction. Plus, recovery from implant surgery tends to be quicker, making it a more comfortable option for many patients.

Myth 3: Implants Aren’t Covered by Insurance

Many people are under the impression that their insurance won’t cover dental implants. However, our team will thoroughly check your insurance coverage before proceeding with any treatment plan. To make your care even more accessible, we offer in-house discount plans and possible additional discounts based on the number of implants needed.

Myth 4: Dental Implants Require a Long Recovery Time

While the full process from beginning to end can take anywhere from three to six months, this time frame includes the necessary healing period before the restoration (the part that looks like a tooth) is placed on the implant. In some cases, if a patient has sufficient bone density, we can place the restoration on the same day as the surgery.

Myth 5: Dental Implants Are a One-Step Process

Contrary to this belief, dental implant treatment involves several stages. The surgical placement of the implant is just the first step. A post-operative check-up occurs two weeks later, and as healing continues, the restoration is set on the implant.

Myth 6: I’ll Have to Go to More Than One Provider for the Process

If you don’t like the idea of seeing more than one practitioner to get your implants, you’ll be pleased to know that 90% of our implant cases are completed in-house from start to finish!
